"I can't install UiKnow"

For now, UiKnow will only work in Internet Explorer and on a computer using Microsoft Windows. You must have the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 installed in order for UiKnow to run. You can check to see if you have the .Net Framework 2.0 installed by going to "Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs to see if it's listed or, ask your network administrator. If you don't have the .NET Framework installed you can obtain it directly from Microsoft for free here, or by going to "Windows Update" on your Start menu (Note: the .NET Framework will be listed under "Software, Optional". Figure 1 Below)

Also, we have only tested UiKnow with Windows XP (TM) and Windows 2000 (TM) . We cannot guarantee UiKnow's compatibility with other Windows versions. Please let us know if you have difficulty with older versions of Windows or international versions.

"I downloaded and installed UiKnow but, I don't know how to open it."

Below are instructions for opening UiKnow once it's installed. If you are not sure if UiKnow is installed or not, go to "Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs." If UiKnow is installed, it will show up under "UiKnow". Once you have opened UiKnow you can go to our tutorial for a quick lesson in how to use UiKnow

Once you have installed UiKnow, open up Internet Explorer TM and look for the UiKnow icon ( ) on the main tool bar (where you see buttons for "Back," "Home," "Favorites," "History," etc.). Simply click it and UiKnow will open in a moment.

If you don't see the UiKnow icon, that means you have probably made some changes to the tool bar in the past ("customized" it) . You can add the UiKnow icon to your tool bar for easy access in the future or, access UiKnow from Internet Explorer's menu bar.

To add the UiKnow icon to your tool bar; click "View/Toolbars/Customize" on  the Internet Explorer menu bar and you will see a window similar to this:

Look for the UiKnow icon, select it by clicking once on it and then click the "Add" button. If you want, you can move it's location on the main toolbar by using the "Move Up" or  "Move Down" buttons:

Then click "Close" and the UiKnow icon will appear on your Internet Explorer (TM) tool bar.

To open UiKnow from the menu bar, simply click "View/Explorer Bar/UiKnow":

"Will UiKnow work behind a firewall or with a proxy server?"

UiKnow will work behind most firewalls and proxy servers. If you have a proxy server, you should be prompted to enter its settings when you install UiKnow. If not, you can always enter the settings by going to "Tools/Options" and looking for the "Proxy Server" button. Ask your network administrator if you do not understand what this means or do not know your proxy settings.

We have installed UiKnow successfully in locations where firewalls exist. In some cases, firewalls pose no problems whatsoever. In other cases, the firewall will block UiKnow from successfully launching or completing a search. If you have problems, you'll have to contact your network administrator, sometimes adjusting user privileges is all that is needed. Please let us know if you continue to have problems with a firewall so that we may work to improve our program by adding features to better serve your needs.

"When will versions of UiKnow be available for other computer operating systems and browsers? "

Versions of UiKnow will be available for other computer operating systems (i.e., Linux and Apple)  when they have stable versions of Internet Explorer that can run the .NET Framework and we have the resources to develop them. We are also planning versions that support other browsers as well, stay tuned!
